Having Fun in Susan's Kitchen

Well my MIL and SIL are visiting from PA for my husband's graduation with a Dual Master's!! I am so very Proud of him... but now to the Fun things I have been teaching them in my kitchen! My SIL saw one of my MANY crafty books and questioned how hard making cake pops and such was, believe me when I say, "If I can do it, you can do it!" with a Double fudge choc cake mix we made two different types of POPS, using half the batter we used the Brownie pop silicone mold to make 24 dome shaped cakes, melted choc dipped stick in choc and let sit till firm, then coated the bottom of each with melted choc and put on wax paper until firm, then dipped and spooned choc over cake and gently knocked of the extra choc and placed in fridge until firm, using a sharp knife put whole into by stick to insert the character picks of lions , tigers, monkeys into pops... and they are done!
The second half of the batter we baked in a 9 in round pan, let cool then crumbled finely with fingers, we added Strawberry icing about 2 tablespoons at a time just until the mixture held together. ( I have found that if you then place mixture in fridge before attempting to roll balls it works a lot better) 2 hours later I had her rolling 1 tablespoon of mixture into a tight ball and placing back in fridge.until again cold, then again inset sticks using some melted choc on to secure and back in fridge/ freezer for about 30 min. Melt choc of choice, if it is very thick add a teaspoon of veg oil at a time stirring well after each addition to the consistency needed to spoon or roll cake ball into. gently knock off extra choc and place stick in a Styrofoam block until set. If you are looking for perfectly round balls and no drips on these balls all I gotta say is"PRACTICE", They are fun and delicious even if not picture perfect so just enjoy, get the kids to help dip add sprinkles, nuts or whatever. My MIL and SIL had a ball as they sat and used up the leftover colors by spooning, flicking and dipping the already dipped balls into them making a mass of unusual funny designs! Most important thing to remember is to HAVE FUN!!!
